FKR units are often referred to as a coupling, as it exploits a neoprene rubber facing that engages the drum directly. This process results in a friction force, which permits a large amount of torque within a small package.
The expanding neoprene rubber facing engages with the interior diameter of the drum directly, greatly increasing its contact and grip. The FKR element offers advantages of both a flexible and disconnect coupling in applications where there is no speed differential between the driving and driven components during an engagement.
FKR elements are identified in the same way as FKE elements. The smallest element expands on an inner diameter of 3 inches (76 mm), while largest on a drum with an inner diameter of 24 inches (610 mm).
